Tools: The Windows Security Center, which is
already installed on your computer, monitors
and enables you to manage important security
settings on your computer, including a firewall,
automatic updates, and the status of your antivirus
software.
Antispyware software helps to protect your computer
from known programs that can track your Web
browsing habits or make changes to your computer
settings without your consent or control. See
if you already have it, why it's important,
and how to get it. Some Crackers (sometimes
known incorrectly as hackers), and in some cases
unreputable companies, write programs called
computer viruses, worms, trojan horses and spyware.
These programs are all characterised as being
unwanted software that install themselves on
your computer through deception. Trojan horses
are simply programs that conceal their true
purpose or include a hidden functionality that
a user would not want. Worms are characterised
by having the ability to replicate themselves
and viruses are similar except that they achieve
this by adding their code onto third party software.
Once a virus or worm has infected a computer,
it would typically infect other programs (in
the case of viruses) and other computers. Viruses! |
